| Description: Ijgd is a non-profit, non-denominational organisation which has been active in international youth work since 1948. |
| Each year ijgd organises international youth workcamps in Germany. In cooperation with partner organisations of the Alliance a worldwide network has been created, so that volunteers can participate in workcamps all over the world. However, this programme will focus on workcamps in Germany. Our aim is to encourage young people to become aware of existing social and environmental conditions, enabling them to become an active and responsible participant in a democratic society. This learning process leads (among other things) to the examination of one's own cultural norms and values. |
| Work: Project: During this camp you can get involved in helping endangered bats and at the same time learn about species protection and Mecklenburg’s forests. Together with the onsite foresters you will look for adequate nesting places, and build and install bat houses. The hiking path also needs to be improved. During this camp you will improve your nature knowledge and make an important contribution to species diversity. |
| Accomodation: Catering: Meals will be prepared as a group. Accommodation: You will be staying in a school youth hostel. |
| Profile: LOCATION AND LEISURE: Where: Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania; Schwerin 70 km, Rostock 85 km, Berlin 150 km. Free Time: With forests, lakes, and pathways, this is a camp for those who want to get their last taste of fall. If the weather holds you can spend time on the grounds of the hostel, play sports, sit around the fire, or go for a swim in the lake. Activities in the area are easily reached by public transportation. On the weekends, feel free to take trips to the Baltic Sea, to Rostock, or to Schwerin. |
| Note: [IJGD 0231]: last 2 places for male volunteers only!

| Description: pro international e.V. is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation and was founded in 1956 in Marburg (where our office is located as well), influenced by experiences during the Second World War. The main aim was and still is working for peace, bringing together young people from different nationalities in order to learn more about other social, cultural and political living conditions. We are offering workcamps (Short Term Projects) almost all over the year, mainly in summer. |
| Host organisation is the municipality of Marburg. They already have organised international volunteer camps for many years. It is a workcamp including German language training. The lectures will be two hours every day (excluding Saturday and Sunday when the group will go on excursions). The main topic during the lectures will be intercultural diversities. So the basis of the lectures will be communication first and grammar second. The teachers will be native speakers, partly trained teachers, partly students. The language-course will not have the same standard like a professional language-school, but experiences with this concept in the past have shown its success. |
| Work: Participants are busy doing various manual works to prepare the area (youth-holiday-camp "Freizeitgelände Stadtwald") for (or after) the summer leisure activities of the municipality. It means for example clearing the place, gardening, painting, building up/taking down tents. Time of work will be 4-5 hours daily, excluding Saturday and Sunday. |
| Accomodation: Will be in a house with several-bed-rooms, kitchen, bathroom, shower. Cooking, cleaning, shopping etc. will be done by the group itself. Like in each workcamp, accommodation, food and travel-costs for excursions are free as well as materials/copies needed for the lectures. |
| Profile: Location: Marburg is an historical and picturesque old university town, 100 km north of Frankfurt/Main. It has 80.000 inhabitants, including 20.000 students (from actual 120 different countries). The camp is located in the area named "Stadtwald" in a youth-holiday-camp. It is not located in the centre, but not too far, and there is a good bus-connection.
Terminal: Train-station Marburg; next airport Frankfurt/Main or Frankfurt-Hahn.
Special requirements: Participants must already be able to communicate in German, at least on a level which ensures simple communication; this course is not for absolute beginners. Participants also must be willing to communicate with each other during the camp in German and not in English or in their own mother tongue for the whole time, not only during the lectures. This is one important part of the concept.
Special remark: Because of the language-course there is an (extra-) fee: 160,00 EUR - to be paid upon arrival. Official confirmation for participating in the language-course will be given at the end of the camp.

| Description: SEEDS volunteers in this project will be part of the 7th SEEDS international photo marathon in Iceland! One of our objectives is to deliver messages and draw the attention to the local population through pictures and photos made during the camp! The main idea and task of the project is involvement and participation of the volunteers in the SEEDS Photo Marathon. |
| Work: SEEDS coordinators (among them a professional international photographer) will have prepared few different topics on which the participants will base their entries to the competition; those topics will be mainly related to the work of SEEDS: Environment and intercultural understanding.
The autumn in the northern hemisphere offers a great opportunity to make photos, the beauty of new fallen snow and frozen water and the contrast of light and shadow are inspiration for many photographers.
Participants need to take their own digital cameras and its main work will be done by walking or cycling all around the city and taking photographs on the issues given; the best pictures will be selected for a final exhibition, which will be the last part of the project.
We shall be prepared for walking, flexible time schedule (early morning photo sessions, night photographing). A session in the surroundings of Reykjavík will be organised. We hope that volunteers will make a serious effort to achieve a high level of work with original ideas, interesting and creative results.
This project will combine different tasks within Reykjavík city ensuring daily diversity and various experiences for the volunteers. Additional activities for us will be focused on keeping Reykjavík and its public areas lively, attractive and charming for locals and visitors. Tasks may involve house painting to cover graffiti tags, tiding up public spaces and face-lifting the city before the winter. |
| Accomodation: We will stay in a local house in Reykjavík; sleeping in shared rooms. Bringing your own sleeping bag is needed. We will receive food and be in charge of the different cooking and cleaning activities. Equipped kitchen and washing machine are available.
Please do not forget some traditional food from your home country for the international evening.
LOCATION: Reykjavík is the capital of Iceland, often called “the nightlife capital of the north”. But there is more to Reykjavik than pubs and clubs. Reykjavík also gathers the most interesting of Icelandic culture. It is an International city with a lively Cosmopolitan cultural scene.
The population of the city is over 200,000 including the metropolitan area, so two thirds of Iceland’s inhabitants live here. Reykjavík is a dynamic, modern city which lives in harmony with beautiful nature, using renewable energy sources - geothermal power and glacial rivers.
During this month we will have great chances to see spectacular Northern lights (aurora borealis). The warm geothermal swimming pools offer a great way of relaxation; dipping into a hot pot, surrounded by snow and stars shining above is an experience not to miss. |
| Profile: LANGUAGE: English will be the language of the camp; high proficiency is not required.
STUDY THEME: This workcamp has an educational/awareness-raising approach to environmental awareness, nature-protection and sustainable development topics. The group is encouraged to organise and develop fun, interactive and educational activities within the project.
Participants are required to bring warm clothes. SEEDS will provide volunteers with passes to access free of charge the city’s seven geothermal swimming pools and thermal-water beach. Tours and excursions will be arranged for volunteers at discount fares. |
